dissolve 原本指的是固体「溶解」。两人的婚姻溶解在水中，再也不是婚姻原有的样子，家庭不复存在。于是，引申为 to formally end a parliament, business arrangement, marriage etc 「解除」商务安排、婚姻关系等。之前比尔盖茨离婚时，CNN 也用了这个词。所以 dissolve our union 整个短语的意思是「解除婚姻关系」。或者也可以写成dissolve the marriage。

2️⃣affair【考研词汇】

4️⃣call it quits
这是一个固定短语，表示 to stop doing something or being involved in something「决定结束，就此了结」。常用于离婚、分手等情境。
