Introduction

The International Symposium on Ancient Ceramics (ISAC) was initiated in 1982 by Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SICCAS), under the leadership of materials science pioneers Dongsheng Yan and Jiazhi Li. Its research tradition dates back to 1928, when Ren Zhou first applied scientific methods to study ancient ceramics, marking the inception of China’s scientific research in this field. Held triennially, the symposium has successfully convened 13 sessions so far, attracting active participation from scholars across over 20 countries and regions in Asia, Europe, the Americas, and beyond. Today, ISAC stands as a vital platform for disseminating cutting-edge research in ancient ceramics. ISAC'2025 aims to address critical issues in ancient ceramic technology, historical evolution, and conservation through interdisciplinary dialogue and global collaboration. Join us！

Themes

Submissions are encouraged in the following areas, but not limited to:

1)Ancient Ceramics Science:

archaeometric analysis, firing techniques, raw material sourcing, integrating computational modeling with experimental archaeology approaches

2) Archaeological and Historical Studies:

Regional ceramic production systems, trade networks, and cross-cultural influences

3) Advanced Analytical Techniques:

Applications of various methods in provenance studies and technological reconstruction.

4) Interdisciplinary Approaches:

Integration of art, history, materials science, and archaeology to decode ceramic production practices.

5) Conservation and Restoration:

Innovative methods and materials for preserving ceramic artifacts, including environmental impact assessments and digital archiving.

简介

古陶瓷科学技术国际讨论会（ISAC）由中国科学院上海硅酸盐研究所于1982年发起，创始人为材料科学先驱严东生和李家治。其研究传统可追溯至1928年周仁首次运用科技手段研究古陶瓷，开创了中国古陶瓷科学研究的先河。会议每三年举办一届，至今已成功举办13届，吸引了来自亚洲、欧洲、美洲等地20余个国家和地区的专家学者的积极参与，目前已成为传播陶瓷考古、科技考古、材料科学与技术、保护和修复领域前沿研究和促进全球合作的重要平台。
