Remote Interview Report: Exclusive Interview with Rev. Fr. Marc Andy Donnay by Wang Guoquan (Prince John), the Prince of Love Songs International Host – Illuminating Hope for Haitian Children Through OCIDDESH(中英文版 / Chinese and English Version)

(Prince John)

Remote Interview Report: Exclusive Interview with Rev. Fr. Marc Andy Donnay by Wang Guoquan (Prince John), the Prince of Love Songs International Host – Illuminating Hope for Haitian Children Through OCIDDESH

By Wang Guoquan (Prince John), Prince of Love Songs International Host
Date: November 3, 2025
Location: Interview from St. Lucy’s Church office, Brooklyn, New York

In a world often overshadowed by crises, stories of quiet heroism shine through like beacons of hope. Rev. Fr. Marc Andy Donnay, a Haitian-born Catholic priest and dedicated hospital chaplain at Lincoln Hospital Center in the Bronx, embodies this spirit. Fluent in English, Spanish, French, and Haitian Creole, Father Donnay ministers to diverse communities with profound empathy. Beyond his parish duties at St. Lucy’s Church in Brooklyn, he founded OCIDDESH (Organization of Dedicated Citizens for the Development of Southern Haiti) in 2016, a nonprofit Christian organization that has become a lifeline for vulnerable children in Haiti. Drawing from his eight years of missionary work in Haiti and his personal witness to disasters like the 2010 earthquake and Hurricane Matthew in 2016, Father Donnay’s efforts focus on education, healthcare, and spiritual support for over 100 children annually.

This interview stems from a shared passion for philanthropy: On March 25, 2025, at the United Nations Headquarters, host Wang Guoquan and Father Marc first met at the CSW69 Reflections Forum and Awards Ceremony. This multi-stakeholder dialogue, held shortly after the close of the 69th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, gathered global charity leaders to reflect on women’s rights and sustainable development goals, forging a friendship between the two dedicated advocates. (Photo caption: Individual photos of Wang Guoquan and Father Marc from the CSW69 Reflections Forum.)

In this exclusive 30-minute interview, conducted amid the ongoing humanitarian challenges in Haiti as of October 2025, Father Donnay opens up about the dire situation facing Haitian children—exacerbated by gang violence, displacement, educational collapse, medical shortages, and natural disasters—and how OCIDDESH is responding. Grounded in reports from UNICEF, UNESCO, and UN data, his insights blend faith, compassion, and actionable advocacy.

Wang Guoquan (Prince John): Father Marc, thank you for taking the time for this interview. First, could you briefly introduce “OCIDDESH”? How did the organization start helping children in Haiti?

Father Marc: Of course, thank you for your interest. “OCIDDESH” was founded in 2016 when I had just returned to New York from Haiti. The 2010 earthquake and the 2016 Hurricane Matthew destroyed parts of southern Haiti, leaving countless children without homes or families. As a Haitian priest who served there for eight years, I witnessed their pain firsthand. We began with a small prayer group in Brooklyn and have grown into a team of over 10 volunteers. Today, we support about 100 children each year through fundraising from New York churches and partnerships with friends and local NGOs. Our focus is on education, health, and spiritual nourishment because, as I believe, investing in children is investing in the future. Our vision is “dedicated to improving the physical and spiritual well-being of children”—not just material aid, but holistic support rooted in faith.

Wang Guoquan (Prince John): Very inspiring. Now, let’s talk about the current challenges facing children in Haiti. What are the main challenges that children in Haiti are currently facing?

Father Marc: Children in Haiti are caught in a vortex of multiple crises. First, there’s ongoing violence—gangs control 80% of the capital Port-au-Prince, leading to frequent closures of schools and hospitals. According to UN data, over 500,000 children are malnourished or facing acute hunger in 2025. Second, natural disasters like recent hurricanes have destroyed community infrastructure. There’s also the resurgence of epidemics such as cholera, worsened by climate change, turning children’s lives into a tightrope walk. Our partners in Haiti report that many children eat only one meal a day and are even forced to join gangs for survival. As a priest and a human being, my heart breaks for them.

Wang Guoquan (Prince John): Indeed concerning. Why are so many children displaced?

Father Marc: Displacement is the result of a chain reaction. Political instability and gang wars are the main drivers—over 1 million Haitians have been forced from their homes since 2024, with half of them being children. They flee gunfire, kidnappings, and extortion, but displacement camps offer little relief: no clean water, inadequate shelter, and constant threats. Last year, OCIDDESH aided over 100 displaced children by establishing “safe spaces” in temporary camps, providing food, counseling, and basic supplies. But the root cause is a governance vacuum—without a stable government, there’s no safety net. These children aren’t just statistics; they are our future, and they deserve global attention.

Wang Guoquan (Prince John): What is the current state of education for children in Haiti?

Father Marc: Education is on the brink of collapse. About 70% of schools nationwide are closed due to violence or funding shortages, with enrollment rates plummeting to a historic low of 40% in 2025. Girls are hit hardest, often dropping out due to poverty, early marriage, or household duties. Through our “Hope Light” program, OCIDDESH sponsors two schools in Port-au-Prince, offering scholarships and online courses to over 300 children to keep learning alive even amid unrest. UNESCO reports Haiti’s child literacy rate at only 60%, which perpetuates the cycle of poverty. We must invest here—one book, one teacher, can change a life.

Wang Guoquan (Prince John): How is the lack of medical resources affecting children in Haiti?

Father Marc: The medical shortages are nothing short of deadly. Hospitals lack basic drugs, equipment, and staff, with child vaccination coverage below 50%, fueling outbreaks of preventable diseases like measles and cholera. In 2025, malaria cases surged after hurricanes, and our medical partners have seen too many children succumb to treatable infections. Malnutrition further weakens their immune systems, making young kids look as weary as adults. OCIDDESH distributes vitamins, mosquito nets, and nutritional supplements via mobile clinics, reaching thousands of children. Yet, it’s just a drop in the ocean—international aid has dropped by 20% as funds shift to other global crises. We urgently call for more humanitarian support; a child’s life is priceless.

Wang Guoquan (Prince John): Father Marc, your passion is truly infectious. Finally, what is your call to the global community that cares about children in Haiti?

Father Marc: Please join us in this mission! Whether through donations of time, money, or prayers, every act counts. Visit our website at www.ociddesh.com to learn how to get involved—sponsor a child, volunteer for a fundraiser, or simply spread awareness. The children of Haiti aren’t distant headlines; they are God’s precious ones, waiting for our hands to extend in love. As I often say, “There is more joy in giving than receiving.” Thank you for this platform to amplify their voices.

In the wake of Haiti’s compounding tragedies, Father Donnay’s work reminds us that faith paired with action can forge paths through despair. OCIDDESH not only provides tangible aid but also instills hope, echoing the quiet sainthood of those who serve without fanfare.
