Grand Canal Media News (Xu Rong) As a branch of philosophy, ethics is often considered a profound and dry discipline. But this society in Yangzhou has proven over ten years that ethics can also serve as a guiding principle for campus education, family values construction, and social and cultural development. On July 25, the second general meeting of the Yangzhou Ethics Society was held at Yangzhou Polytechnic University. Experts and scholars from Yangzhou universities, cultural industry institutions, and other industries gathered to jointly advance the "Ethics" initiative, exploring how ethical research can empower the development of healthcare, technology, and the inheritance and protection of canal culture.

Yangzhou's millennia-old grain transport civilization has nurtured a city character that values culture and virtue, upholds integrity and inclusiveness, and has provided an excellent foundation for ethical research and practical application. In 2016, the Yangzhou Ethics Society was established, filling a gap in local ethical research in Yangzhou, and it is the second municipal-level ethics society in the province after Suzhou. This society, composed of academic enthusiasts and educators, broke away from the traditional academic circle's "closed-door research" routine, turning obscure philosophical ethics into a "magic weapon" of knowledge that ordinary people can use and practice.

Wu Shuan, member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Yangzhou Polytechnic University, introduced the practical achievements of the school-association cooperation and the implementation of moral education teaching based on campus platforms. The society pioneered the nationwide "Heart-to-Heart Moral Education" program, continuously deepening ideological and political education for college students through various forms such as the "Heart-to-Heart Talks Room," heart-to-heart media, heart-to-heart lectures, and classrooms, addressing students' youthful confusions and becoming a shining calling card for campus moral education.

"One of the society's major features is the integration of ethics and logic, which both cultivates scientific thinking and strengthens awareness of norms. The combination of the two has achieved a '1+1 > 2' effect in academic research and knowledge popularization." Ding Chun, the first president of the Yangzhou Ethics Society, told Grand Canal Media reporters that what the society is doing is overcoming "rigid arguments" and "formalism," discussing social hot topics, solving practical problems, and employing various methods to carry out work, allowing ordinary people to benefit.
Moreover, ethics not only serves university education but can also be extended to various industries. A new highlight of this conference is the introduction of a new multi-field professional development layout for "ethics," enabling ethics to further empower urban development. Luo Xue, Secretary-General of the Society and Associate Professor at the School of Medicine, Yangzhou Polytechnic University, stated that medical experiments, medical humanities, and doctors' professional ethics all involve ethics and morality. The pioneering implementation of "ethical medicine" is about using morality to regulate medical activities and explore new practices in "ethics."
Next, the society will comprehensively expand into multiple tracks. "Ethics and Technology" focuses on the ethical boundaries of the development of new technologies such as artificial intelligence, exploring the good of technology and the prevention of technological chaos; "Ethics in Business" reflects on workplace ethics and business strategies across industries, creating an honest business environment; "Ethics: Canal Culture" deeply explores Grand Canal culture, fine family traditions, and the governance customs of local sages, transforming ancient canal ethics into new trends in contemporary urban civilization.

Deng Feng, president of the Yangzhou Ethics Society, mentioned that Yangzhou is a thousand-year-old ancient city that values culture and virtue, providing rich nourishment for the society to conduct ethical research, promote moral culture, and nurture urban civilization. The society will take root in Yangzhou's rich cultural soil, steadily advance academic discussions and achievement exchanges around pragmatic topics such as traditional ethics inheritance, family tradition cultivation, and grassroots civilization cultivation, allowing ethical thought to be genuinely implemented and empowering local development.

In the future, the Yangzhou Ethics Society will deepen social resources with member units, various schools, and other industry organizations, and strengthen joint efforts to carry out activities. Deng Qing, Director of the Canal City International Exchange Committee of the World Historic and Cultural Canal Cities Cooperation Organization (WCCO), expressed his hope for deepening collaboration and joint progress with the Yangzhou Ethics Society in the future. He hopes the society will continue to rely on Yangzhou's unique canal cultural resources, deeply cultivate ethical research, integrate traditional ethical wisdom into urban governance, civilization practice, and grassroots services in the new era, and also look forward to both sides building a regular cooperation platform to jointly study canal culture and tell the story of Yangzhou's canal civilization.
