Grand Canal Media News (Gui Yan, Xu Rong) On the afternoon of August 2nd, the 6th Canal Cities Model United Nations Conference (CCMUN2026) with the theme "Sailing Dreams to Connect the World" came to an end at the Yangzhou Convention Center. During the closing ceremony, various awards for individuals, organizations, and special achievements were announced one by one. Among them, the newly established "Outstanding Organization Award" directly provided international exchange scholarships to the winning schools, allowing them to recommend outstanding students to participate in the Global Citizens Model United Nations Conference (GCMUN) to be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York in 2027. During the four-day conference, over 100 young representatives acted as diplomats from various countries, engaging in discussions and debates on cutting-edge international issues such as cultural heritage protection and the unequal governance of global value chains. Through these exchanges, they presented their youthful perspectives and gained valuable experiences, as well as recognition for their efforts. At the closing ceremony, the chairpersons of the two representative committees summarized the outcomes of the conference.
The chairpersons of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee recalled the intense discussions surrounding the protection of world heritage sites in conflict zones, and ultimately reached a consensus on safeguarding three endangered sites: St. Sophia Cathedral, the Nubian sites, and the ancient Golestan Palace. “Our discussions resonated with those held at the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Busan, South Korea. Civilizations become richer through exchange and endure through protection. Let us embrace a spirit of openness and work together to preserve the world’s precious heritage,” said Wang Yutong, a member of the chairpersons’ group.
Zhu Shengkai, a member of the chairpersons’ group of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), remarked: “From initial shyness and nervousness to confidently delivering speeches on stage, I believe everyone here has the potential to become true representatives on the global stage in the future.””
