有人通过课本认识世界，有人通过考试证明自己，而美伦国际高中学子邱海然，更习惯通过不断追问“为什么”，去理解世界运行的规律。

Some learn about the world through textbooks, others prove themselves through exams, but Hiram, a student at MIC (Majestic International College), is more accustomed to understanding the laws that govern the world by constantly asking "why."

历史、政治、哲学、语言、地理、音乐，看似毫无关联的领域，在他眼中却有着共同的逻辑线索。他喜欢拆解问题、寻找根源，并通过自己的方式建立知识体系。“对于任何权威，我都会先怀疑它，然后研究它是如何形成的。”这句话，或许正是邱海然最鲜明的个人特质。

History, politics, philosophy, language, geography, music—seemingly unrelated fields—in his eyes all share common threads of logic. He enjoys deconstructing problems, tracing their roots, and building knowledge systems in his own way.

"For any authority, I will first question it, then study how it came to be." This sentence perhaps captures Hiram's most defining personal trait.

从家庭启蒙到独立探索：

兴趣源于对历史的热爱

邱海然对历史与政治的兴趣，源于家庭长期积累的影响。他的家庭有多年的历史研究传统，父亲也是一位历史爱好者，尤其关注古代中国历史及其政治经济制度研究。从小接触的书籍资料，让他逐渐形成了主动探索的习惯。

Hiram's interest in history and politics stems from the long-term influence of his family.

His family has a tradition of historical research spanning many years. His father is also a history enthusiast, with a particular focus on ancient Chinese history and its political and economic institutions. The books and materials he was exposed to from an early age gradually shaped his habit of active exploration.

但兴趣并没有停留在“记住历史事件”层面。相比于了解某一个历史人物或事件，他更关注背后的制度、逻辑和因果关系。“我喜欢研究一个东西为什么会变成这样，它背后的根本是什么。”这种思维方式，也影响了他后来对社会科学的兴趣。

However, his interest never stopped at "memorizing historical events." Compared with learning about a particular historical figure or event, he is more concerned with the underlying institutions, logic, and causal relationships. "I like to study why something became the way it is, and what the fundamental reasons behind it are." This way of thinking later influenced his interest in the social sciences.

从世界各国政治制度，到选举规则设计，再到社会运行规律，他不断尝试从更底层的逻辑理解现实世界。

From political systems around the world, to the design of electoral rules, to the laws governing social operations, he continuously tries to understand the real world from a more fundamental level of logic.

“维基学习法”：

建立属于自己的知识体系

如果说邱海然有一种独特的学习工具，那就是维基百科。作为维基百科编辑者，他不仅把它作为获取信息的平台，更把它当作整理知识的方法。他的学习过程通常不是简单阅读，而是：发现问题——寻找资料——验证信息——分析逻辑——形成体系。“我会利用维基百科梳理知识，然后寻找其中逻辑上的漏洞，再进一步研究。”

If Hiram has a unique learning tool, it is Wikipedia. As a Wikipedia editor, he uses it not only as a platform for accessing information but also as a method for organizing knowledge. His learning process typically does not involve simple reading, but rather follows a cycle: identify a problem → gather materials → verify information → analyze logic → build a system.
"I use Wikipedia to structure my knowledge, then look for logical gaps in it, and then conduct further research."

Through this approach, he has gradually built his own knowledge network. When studying political science, he cross-verifies information through sources in different languages; when researching history, he focuses on connections between events; when learning languages, he seeks out common patterns underlying different tongues.

除了英语和中文，他还接触法语、西班牙语、德语、阿拉伯语和波斯语等语言，希望通过不同视角理解世界。“不同语言背后，其实连接着不同的文化和思维方式。”在他看来，学习语言并不是为了掌握更多词汇，而是为了了解背后深层的语言学和文化规律。

In addition to English and Chinese, he has also studied French, Spanish, German, Arabic, and Persian, hoping to understand the world from multiple perspectives. "Behind different languages lie different cultures and ways of thinking." In his view, learning a language is not about mastering more vocabulary, but about understanding the deeper linguistic and cultural patterns behind it.

在美伦找到适合自己的学习方式

2023年，邱海然转入美伦国际高中，开始接受国际课程教育。转轨国际教育，是因为他逐渐意识到，自己更适合开放、自主的学习环境。

In 2023, Hiram transferred to MIC (Majestic International College) to begin an international curriculum. He made the switch to international education because he gradually realized that he was better suited to an open, independent learning environment.

“我需要找到真正驱动自己的目标，才能开启高效学习。”刚进入美伦时，他也经历过适应过程。学习IG课程期间，他曾感受到较大的压力。但转入BC课程后，持续性的评价方式、小组项目和更开放的学习模式，让他的优势逐渐展现出来。

"I need to find a goal that truly drives me before I can start learning efficiently." When he first arrived at MIC, he also went through an adjustment period. During his IGCSE studies, he experienced considerable pressure. But after transferring to the BC program, the continuous assessment system, group projects, and more open learning style allowed his strengths to gradually emerge.

尤其是在社会科学领域，他遇到了对自己影响深远的老师——Mr. Johnson。在美伦学习期间，Mr.Johnson教授了包括AP美国历史、比较文化、法律研究等多门课程，为邱海然打开了更深入研究社会科学的大门。课堂之外，他们也经常围绕历史和政治问题展开讨论。

Particularly in the social sciences, he encountered a teacher who had a profound impact on him—Mr. Johnson. During his time at MIC, Mr. Johnson taught Hiram courses including AP U.S. History, Comparative Cultures, and Legal Studies, opening the door to deeper research in the social sciences. Outside the classroom, they often engaged in discussions on historical and political issues.

邱海然提出的问题，有时甚至涉及某个国家制度中的法理学细节，老师愿意和他一起查阅资料、共同探讨。对他而言，真正有价值的学习，并不是得到一个标准答案，而是在探索问题的过程中不断深化理解。

Sometimes, the questions Hiram raised even touched on jurisprudential details of a certain country's institutions, and his teacher was willing to look up materials and explore them together with him. For Hiram, truly valuable learning is not about obtaining a standard answer, but about deepening understanding through the process of exploring questions.

用数学模型研究政治：

从兴趣走向学术探索

在美伦期间，邱海然完成了一项关于英国选举制度的EPQ研究，并获得A*成绩。他的研究关注一个问题：如何设计一种既能反映民意，又能保持政治稳定的选举制度？

During his time at MIC, Hiram completed an EPQ research project on the British electoral system and achieved an A* grade. His research focused on one question: How can we design an electoral system that both reflects public opinion and maintains political stability?

为了回答这个问题，他研究英国、法国、澳大利亚等多个国家的选举制度，并结合数据分析和数学模型进行模拟。他通过加拉格尔指数等方法，分析不同制度下选票与议席之间的关系，最终提出排序复选制可能是英国当前较优的制度选择。

To answer this question, he studied the electoral systems of multiple countries, including the UK, France, and Australia, and used data analysis and mathematical models for simulations. Using metrics such as the Gallagher Index, he analyzed the relationship between votes and seats under different systems, ultimately concluding that the Alternative Vote (ranked-choice voting) might be a better systemic choice for the UK at present.

这项研究体现了他独特的思考方式：政治并不只是观点的碰撞，也可以通过数据、模型和逻辑进行分析，使其成为一门科学。从历史兴趣出发，到政治学研究，再到数据模型应用，他不断尝试连接不同学科。

This project reflects his unique way of thinking: politics is not just a clash of opinions—it can also be analyzed through data, models, and logic, making it a science. From an initial interest in history, to political science research, and then to the application of data models, he continuously tries to connect different disciplines.

另一面的邱海然：

电子音乐创作者

除了研究历史与政治，邱海然还有一个鲜为人知的身份——电子音乐创作者。12岁开始，他便学习电子音乐制作，通过软件、教程以及对音乐作品的拆解分析，逐渐形成自己的创作风格。

Beyond researching history and politics, Hiram has another lesser-known identity—an electronic music producer. Starting at age 12, he taught himself electronic music production, gradually developing his own creative style through software, tutorials, and deconstructive analysis of musical works.

后来，他在音乐平台上发布自己制作的音乐，并曾参与广州、深圳地下音乐派对演出。对于音乐，他依然采用自己熟悉的研究方式。“音乐制作其实也像一门学问，需要分析结构、律动和声音之间的关系。”

Later, he released his own music on streaming platforms and even performed at underground music parties in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. For music, he still applies his familiar research approach. "Music production is actually like a discipline in itself—you need to analyze structure, rhythm, and the relationships between sounds."

无论是政治制度，还是音乐创作，他关注的始终是事物内部的规律。

Whether it is political institutions or music creation, he is always focused on the internal laws of things.

做自己的探索者

谈到未来，邱海然希望继续在社会科学与数据分析的交叉领域深入学习，并根据国际环境变化规划未来发展方向。

Looking to the future, Hiram hopes to continue his in-depth studies at the intersection of social sciences and data analysis, while planning his future direction in response to changes in the international environment.

对于学弟学妹，他给出的建议很简单：“先找到真正喜欢的东西，然后准备好坚持下去的勇气。”在他看来，学校能够提供资源和环境，但真正推动人成长的，是一个人内心的驱动力。

邱海然的成长轨迹，并不是一条传统意义上的标准路径。

For younger students, his advice is simple: "First find what you truly love, and then prepare the courage to stick with it." In his view, schools can provide resources and an environment, but what truly drives a person's growth is their inner motivation.

Hiram's path of growth is not a conventional standard trajectory.

他没有局限于某一个学科，而是在历史、政治、语言、音乐之间不断探索；他没有满足于接受答案，而是不断追问答案背后的逻辑。也许，这正是国际教育希望培养的学生特质——保持好奇，独立思考，并拥有探索未知世界的勇气。

He has never confined himself to a single discipline, but has continuously explored across history, politics, language, and music; he has never been satisfied with accepting answers, but keeps questioning the logic behind them.Perhaps this is precisely the kind of student that international education aims to cultivate—one who remains curious, thinks independently, and has the courage to explore the unknown world.
