Born Roy Frank "RJ" Mitte III in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1992, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of three — the same condition his character lived with. He appeared in 56 episodes of the AMC drama, which ran from 2008 to 2013, won 16 Emmy Awards from 58 nominations and is often cited as one of the best television programs of all time.

His co-stars paid tribute to him as news of his death broke. "I am at a loss. I am heartbroken over this news. RJ, I love you my friend. You will be missed," Aaron Paul, who played Jesse Pinkman, said in a statement. Bryan Cranston, who played his father on the show, wrote on Instagram that he was "in deep despair", calling Mitte "my sweet son": "He was one of the stars of a hit TV show — but still a kid."

Offscreen, Mitte was an outspoken advocate for disability representation in entertainment, serving as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and as president of the Mitte Foundation. Days before his death, he was promoting his new film, Talking to Strangers, billed as a "romantic tragedy". A Cameron County justice of the peace told the Associated Press that an autopsy would be performed.

01 take one's own life phrase To kill oneself deliberately; a euphemistic way to say "commit suicide."

The 45-year-old man killed eight people before taking his own life.

✍ 用法要点：take one's own life 是 commit suicide 的委婉说法，新闻中常用来避免直接、刺眼的 "suicide" 字眼，语气更克制；注意 one's 要随主语变成 his / her / their own life。

02 pound on the door phrase / v. To hit a door hard and repeatedly with the fist, often to attract attention or in a moment of urgency.

Two distressed women arrived and pounded on the door shortly before 5 p.m.

03 speculation n. The act of forming opinions or guesses about something without firm evidence.

District Attorney Elizabeth Hirz urged the public to refrain from speculation.

新闻中 officials urge the public to avoid / refrain from speculation 是固定搭配，意为"在调查清楚前不要胡乱猜测"。
