自端午上映以来，国产悬疑片《消失的她》票房一路攀升，现已突破 23 亿元，超过一众好莱坞大片，成为全球票房周冠军。我选取了多家外媒的报道，在正文开始前，我们先从标题中学几个好用的表达。

01 标题

rocket

熟词生义

rocket 是「火箭」，火箭上升速度惊人，一飞冲天，所以 rocket 还可以作动词，表示价格或数量「迅速上升，猛涨」，另一个词跟它长得很像，也可以表示类似的意思，这就是 skyrocket 。另外的近义词还包括 surge, soar, shoot up 等。

kick off

四级词汇

表示「开始」，我们马上想到了 start 和 begin 。但原文却用上了一个词组——kick off。这个短语男生们可能比较熟悉，指足球比赛中的「开球」。开球意味着比赛开始，所以，后来的 kick off 也可以指某件事的开始。

The chairman's speech will kick off the conference.

会议将以主席的讲话开始。

shakily

四级词汇

形容词 shaky 常用来表示因年迈或惊吓而导致声音、身体等「颤抖的」，相当于 unsteady。比如，a shaky voice「颤抖的声音」。但电影不会颤抖，所以文中的 shaky 用来表示 it is weak or unstable, and seems unlikely to last long or be successful，形容好莱坞电影的表现「不稳固的；摇摇欲坠的」。用大白话来说，就是「不靠谱」，比如，纪录片 Clarkson’s Farm 的主角。

想要知道这个单词是什么意思，我们就需要知道 grossing 是什么意思。根据 -ing 我们判断它派生自 gross。作形容词时，gross 常用来表示「总的，毛的」。比如， a gross profit of 26% 是指「26% 的毛利」。作动词时，gross 表示「总收入为……」。所以在电影行业中，gross 通常用来电影的总票房收入，即观众购买电影票的总金额，至于付给影院、制片方或其他费用则不考虑在内。这个单词使用频率很高，大家需要记住哈。

除了作为形容词出现，direct 也常用作动词，表示 to aim sth in a particular direction or at a particular person「对准，针对」，比如，direct your attention to sth 意思是「将注意力引至某事」。在文中，direct 却是「导演」电影、电视剧，或「指挥」乐团等。所以「导演」这个人是 director，而「制片人」则是 producer。

star as X

熟词生义 + 考研词汇

星星非常闪亮，所以 star 还可以用来指「主角，主演」。所以，当 star 作动词时，可以表示「担任主角；主演」，相当于 play。大家可以看下面的截图，来自今年一部表现出色的香港电影《毒舌律师》。「领衔主演」正是用了 star 这个动词的 ing 形式。A stars as B 自然就是「A 饰演 B」的意思了。

out of the blue

blue 另一个很常用的意思是「忧郁的，悲观的」。如果别人问你今天过得怎么样，你觉得好郁闷，好郁闷。就可以说：I feel blue. 所以，有字幕翻译人员把 out of the blue 理解成了「离开阴郁」，但这个词组的实际意思是 unexpectedly 「出乎意料地，突然地」，口语、写作都常用到。

这个词组可以作为 so far, until now 的替换，前面这俩要更为正式，而且二者在释义和用法上一模一样，表示「迄今为止」。

Fast X

指的是《速度与激情 10》。这一系列完整的片名是 Fast & Furious。furious 除了表示「狂怒的」，还可以表示 with great energy, speed or anger「激烈的；迅速的」，影片跟飞车有着紧密联系，所以中文译为《速度与激情》。

mid-May premiere /ˈpremieə; prɪˈmɪr/

这个单词与俩读音，美式更偏向于后者。premiere 指的是 the first public performance of a film / movie or play，即电影、戏剧等的「首次公演，首映」。前面的 mid-May 是「五月中旬」。因为 mid- 等同于 middle。所以「二十五岁左右」我们除了直接点明 twenty-five 之外，还可以写成 in one's mid-twenties。

homegrown movies

homegrown 字面意思是「在家里长出来的」，而且 home 还有「本国」的意思。因此，一方面 homegrown 可以表示「自家/本地种植的」，如，home-grown tomatoes 就是「自家种的西红柿」。

另一方面，它还可以表示 made, trained or educated in your own country, town, etc，中文是「本国生产的，本地培养的」。「国产电影」除了可以用 homegrown movies，还可以写成 domestic movies。

conundrum /kəˈnʌndrəm/

表示「难题」，除了用 a complex problem，还可以直接写成一个词——conundrum。它专门用来表示「复杂难解的问题」，比如，「伦理难题」我们可译为 an ethical conundrum。
