1945年12月11日，蒋介石和宋美龄一行离开南京，乘坐C-47飞往北平。在北平期间，蒋介石和宋美龄到香山碧云寺，拜谒了孙中山灵位。在碧云寺，两人还一同野餐。12月18日，蒋宋一行乘飞机离开北平。美国LIFE杂志拍下了一组当年珍贵影像，摄影师为Jack Wilkes。
