The 5th Chinese Art Song International Singing Competition Launches

Shanghai Conservatory of Music (SHCM), a historical stronghold of Chinese art songs, has always been dedicated to promoting this relatively young genre and Chinese music classics, aiming to elevate its presence in the global music landscape. As part of such efforts, the SHCM launched the world’s first Chinese Art Song International Singing Competition in 2018 to breathe new life into this beautiful art form. Since then, the biennial Competition has successfully completed another three editions, respectively in 2020, 2022 and 2024, attracting numerous talented vocal artists and musicians from around the world.

In 2026, the 5th Competition will be presented by the SHCM in collaboration with the Government of Shenzhen Futian District. It will consist of three rounds: a preliminary online selection, followed by the semi-final and final rounds to be held on-site. This year, the Competition will introduce several important changes from previous editions.

The application for this year’s Competition will open onJuly 22, 2026. You can register and submit your video via the Competition’s official website at www.artsong.cn. You may also access the website by clicking on the “Chinese Art Song International Singing Competition/中国艺术歌曲国际声乐比赛” section at the bottom of the homepage of the SHCM’s official website. Competition System

The Competition will consist of three rounds: a preliminary online selection, the semi-final and final rounds which will take place on-site, followed by an awarding ceremony and a winners’ concert.

Distinguished collaborative pianist, former President of the University of Music Karlsruhe, and currently Professor at Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
