第一次班会成功召开

On the morning of September 3, the 2026 English Graduate Program of the School of New Media at Peking University held its first class meeting and orientation in Room 515 of the Meng Minwei Building. The session was led by Class Advisor Professor Wang Xiuli and Student Affairs Administer Geng Li. Following introductions from the faculty, the two master’s students and three PhD students introduced themselves to the class. Coming from Costa Rica, Malaysia, Canada, Türkiye, and Thailand, the new cohort reflects the international character of the English Graduate Program. The friendly atmosphere helped students quickly become acquainted with one another as they begin their academic journey at Peking University.

Professor Wang introduced the School of New Media, providing an overview of its academic programs, faculty, scholarship opportunities, and campus resources. She encouraged students to make the most of their time at Peking University by exploring the campus and engaging with its diverse academic community. Emphasizing the importance of international perspectives in today’s rapidly changing world, she noted that students in the English Graduate Program play an important role in promoting cross-cultural understanding and academic exchange. She also reminded students to remain mindful of personal and property safety while adapting to life in China. Professor Wang further introduced important administrative procedures and highlighted the excellent career outcomes of recent graduates, noting that graduates from previous cohorts had all successfully secured employment.

Peer Experience Sharing

To help new students better navigate academic life and campus resources, Tonny Yang, a senior student from the 2025 English Graduate Program cohort, shared his experiences and offered practical advice on coursework, research, and student life. He also passed along advice and insights from the other master’s students in the 2025 cohort. He was joined by Ni Zhiyu (Emily), a masters graduate from the 2024 English Graduate Program cohort who is now continuing as a PhD student. Together, they answered questions and provided valuable guidance on making the most of the graduate experience at Peking University. Their advice gave the incoming students greater confidence as they prepared for the year ahead.

Class Committee Election

The final session of the meeting was the election of the class president, who then coordinated the assignment of the remaining committee roles. The meeting concluded with a group photograph, marking the beginning of a new academic year and reflecting the strong sense of enthusiasm, collaboration, and community within the 2026 English Graduate Program.
