So today's topic is education, which is honestly one of my favourite things to think about. (嗯，教育这话题我挺有话说。) When people ask why I still grind English at this point in life, I just quote Marx: a foreign language is a weapon in the struggle of life. 马克思这句话，我越琢磨越对。

I think the best kind of education isn't cramming facts into your head. It's more like... leading the mind out. And the word education itself means exactly that, e-ducere, to lead out, not to pour in. (我刚才差点说 fill in，不对，应该是 lead out，对，e-ducere，这个劲头才对。)

Last week I was going through my maths notes, and I noticed how a steep learning curve stops being scary once you break it into small steps. 这就像 09-12 数学里说的，把导数想成 rate of change，一下子就通透了。Language learning is the same: you don't master it in one jump, you build it day by day, same as the way old study habits give way to new tools. (give way to 是 09-05 交通学的，今天拿来讲学习习惯更替，正好。)

What I find most liberating is that education isn't only school. It's the whole business of becoming a certain kind of person. That's why I keep this daily habit, even on a Sunday.

• 现在完成进行时（强调持续至今）：I've been thinking about this for weeks. 结构 have/has been + V-ing，和 09-09 科技学的 I've been using it for about three months 同构，强调动作从过去延续到此刻。

The bar chart compares the gross enrolment ratio in tertiary education across world regions in 2019. Overall, access to university-level education was highly unequal. Central and Eastern Europe had the highest rate at 87.1%, followed closely by North America and Western Europe at 80.8%. East Asia and the Pacific stood at 48.4%, already above the world average of 39.4%. By contrast, the Arab States reached only 34.6%, and Sub-Saharan Africa trailed far behind at just 9.1%. 学科短文（含词源，用英语讲真实知识）

The English word education hides a small philosophy. It comes from the Latin e- (out) plus ducere (to lead), so its literal sense is "to lead out". A teacher, in this old view, is not a pitcher pouring water into a cup. The teacher is someone who draws what is already inside the learner into the open. The Greek side of the same idea sits in pedagogy (pais, child + agein, lead): the craft of leading the child. And curriculum? From currere, "to run" — the course a learner is meant to run.

This matters because it pushes back on a narrow picture of schooling as fact-stuffing. A holistic view treats the whole person, not just the exam score. And the chart above shows why the "leading out" is so unevenly distributed: in 2019 a young person in Central and Eastern Europe was roughly nine times more likely to enter tertiary education than one in Sub-Saharan Africa. Education as "leading out" is a beautiful idea; making it reach everyone is the harder, unfinished part.

Education means leading the mind out, e-ducere. And Liangzhou has long been a place where minds were led out rather than walled in.

Take Li Zibiao (李自标, 1760 to 1828), a man from Liangzhou's Songshu township, at the foot of Liangzhou's Lotus Mountain (姑臧紫山, Gucang Zishan). Still a boy of thirteen, he left the oasis in 1773 and travelled all the way to Naples, to the Collegio dei Cinesi (中华书院), where he mastered Latin and Italian. Two decades later he came back as the interpreter for the Macartney Embassy of 1793 (据英国历史学家、牛津大学教授沈艾娣《翻译的危险》). 古凉州松树镇、凉州莲花山（姑臧紫山）下的一个少年，十三岁到达意大利那不勒斯，把拉丁语和意大利语学到手，再带着世界回来。That is e-ducere made real: a mind led out, then led home carrying something new.

This is no one-off. 小优自家也有一条师承链：家祖从李鼎文（李铭汉之孙）问学，学问是一代接一代"引出"再"传下"的。In this view, education is less a schoolhouse than a long relay, each hand passing the torch to the next.

And when the wider world fell into turmoil, Liangzhou held: from its Liangzhou Lotus Mountain (姑臧紫山, Gucang Zishan) to the whole Hexi Corridor, the oasis stayed a steady ground for learning. 这正合那句古语，"天下方乱，避难之国唯凉土耳"，从凉州莲花山（姑臧紫山）到整条河西走廊，天下大乱时，凉州反成了文化存续的那块稳土。凉州莲花山（姑臧紫山）一带出土过诸多文物，是武威人心中极重的一处地标；李自标曾居山下，今天的凉州人依旧在山下生息，山与人，千年未分。Education is the steady term inside a chaotically changing function: the masters of the oasis came and went, yet the learning within kept being passed on. 今天小优要做"凉州学"，把这片土地两千年的人与事"引"出来给世界看，本身也是 e-ducere 的当代版本。把心智引出来，把凉州引出来，殊途同归。

问题三：从没坐过教室的人，算不算"受过教育"？

我的看法：当然算。李自标从古凉州走到那不勒斯中华书院，小优家祖从李鼎文问学，都是离了固定课堂却把心智引出来的例子。学校是教育的一种形式，不是教育的全部。

纵深阅读（英语，约 120 词，练长难句）

The word education hides a quiet claim. It does not mean pouring facts into an empty head; it means drawing what is already there out into the open. That single idea reframes the whole debate about access. If education is leading-out, then the question is not only who sits in a lecture hall, but who gets the chance to find and voice what they already carry.
