鲍勃·迪伦（Bob Dylan）在奥斯陆Spektrum拉开“Lights of Autumn”欧洲巡演序幕，这场演出在周末引发不少关注。新加入的吉他手Mike Seal、翻唱兰迪·纽曼（Randy Newman）的《Louisiana 1927》和盖伊·克拉克（Guy Clark）的《Dublin Blues》，以及自2005年以来首次现场演唱《Crash on the Levee (Down in the Flood)》，都成了话题。
但真正让人反复回听的，是《Tangled Up in Blue》。迪伦已经八年没在现场唱过这首《Blood on the Tracks》里的经典，不过它算不上冷门——1975年到2018年间他唱过1709次，在个人演唱次数总榜上排第四，仅次于《Like a Rolling Stone》《Highway 61 Revisited》和《All Along the Watchtower》。
和那几首标准曲目不同，《Tangled Up in Blue》几十年来在音乐和歌词上都持续发生实质变化。在挪威这场演出里，迪伦把这首歌大幅简化，变成一首他用钢琴演奏、伴奏极简的抒情叙事曲。那对命运多舛恋人的故事开头依旧熟悉——“Early one mornin' the sun was shinin'/He was layin' in bed/Wond'rin' if she'd changed at all/If her hair was still red”——但第三段歌词走向和以往所有版本完全不同。
他唱道：“Way up north in the frozen woods/Teardrops touch the sky/The leaves are falling one by one/And the mornings pass you by/Sometimes it gets so quiet/Sometimes it'll get in the way/Look here for another/Tomorrow's another day.”这一段结尾又回到原版的路子，但再下一段又是全新的：“Things were getting to cost too much/Summer slipped through my hand/Certain truths about that thing I never did understand/You bury the hatchet, you put it to bed/Sometimes you go for a ride/Nothing ever looks the same/After you've been on the other side...”
就在几年前，想从一场迪伦现场演出里得到这样清晰的歌词记录几乎不可能，因为很多地方会唱得含混不清。但他把乐队编制缩小、演奏方式放柔，用来突出自己剩下的嗓音，而他的声音确实很久没这么清晰过了。
迪伦第一次对这首歌做大幅改写是在1984年，当时他和卡洛斯·桑塔纳（Carlos Santana）联合领衔欧洲体育场巡演，琼·贝兹（Joan Baez）作为特别嘉宾只演了几场就离开。那次巡演后来留下现场专辑《Real Live》，但新的《Tangled Up in Blue》令人耳目一新。1985年他对Bill Flanagan说：“我一直想让它变成我在《Real Live》里录的那个样子。旧版本从来没真正填满。我在某个酒店房间里重写了它，我想是阿姆斯特丹。我想唱那首歌，就又看了一遍，然后改了它。第二天晚上唱的时候我知道对了。”
此后直到1988年“Never Ending Tour”开始，他才再次动这首歌，接下来三十年里它继续大幅变化。多数歌迷认为它在1999年至2002年Charlie Sexton与Larry Campbell在队的时期达到顶峰，经常被拉长到八分钟以上，成为展示每位乐队成员技艺的舞台。
从音乐层面看，这个全新版本很难和世纪之交那些版本相比，毕竟那是迪伦用过的最强乐队之一，而他当时才六十岁上下。但单从情感层面说，他在奥斯陆首演的这一版，站得住。
