Minor Heat: Lotus Blooms, Cicadas Sing, Midsummer Begins.

风过荷塘翻起层层绿浪，枝头蝉鸣撕开午后的宁静。当太阳抵达黄经105°，我们迎来了二十四节气中的第11个节气，也是夏季的第5个节气——小暑。

Minor Heat is the 11th solar term in the twenty-four solar terms and the 5th solar term of summer. It usually falls around July 6–8 in the Gregorian calendar each year, and begins when the sun reaches the celestial longitude of 105°.

小暑意为“小热”，暑气初盛却未达极致，是盛夏的正式开端。此时高温多雨、雷暴频发，雨热同季助力作物蓬勃生长，古人也顺应天时，衍生出诸多充满烟火气的夏令习俗。

It means "minor heat" — the weather turns hot but not yet extreme, marking the start of midsummer. With hot, rainy days and frequent thunderstorms, crops grow vigorously, and the ancients formed many customs to adapt to the season.

食新米·庆丰收

Eating New Rice · Celebrating Harvest

小暑时节南方早稻成熟，民间盛行“食新”习俗。人们将新收稻谷碾米煮饭，先敬奉五谷神灵与祖先，再邀亲友共尝，分享丰收喜悦，祈愿风调雨顺。

Early rice ripens in the south around Minor Heat. People cook newly harvested rice, offer it to gods and ancestors first, then share it with relatives, praying for favorable weather.

吃三宝·消夏暑

Eating "Three Treasures" · Beating the Heat

小暑湿热易致食欲不振，民间有吃“三宝”的传统：黄鳝、莲藕、绿豆芽。此时黄鳝鲜嫩滋补，莲藕清热生津，绿豆芽清爽开胃。北方则讲究头伏吃饺子，寓意平安度夏、福气满满。

To fight poor appetite in humid heat, folks eat "three treasures": eel, lotus root and mung bean sprouts, all nutritious and refreshing. In northern China, people eat dumplings to symbolize a peaceful, blessed summer.

晒伏物·防霉蛀

Drying Belongings · Preventing Mildew

农历六月初六恰逢小暑前后，民间有“六月六，晒红绿”的传统。人们趁强光晾晒衣物被褥、书画古籍，驱散潮气、杀灭蛀虫，是古人顺应天时的生活智慧。

Around the 6th day of the 6th lunar month, people dry clothes, quilts, books and paintings in the sun to remove moisture and prevent moths, reflecting the wisdom of following nature.
